Current Publications - Drugs Centre Stage

These provide a resource for teachers to lead the students through drugs education in a creative and engaging way. The class follows the project through by writing, producing and performing a play with a drugs issue topic.

The content of the books has been carefully chosen to match the PSHE National Curriculum and topics include peer pressure, bullying, smoking, alcohol, prescribed medicines, over the counter medicines, volatile substances and keeping safe. They involve drama, writing, listening, reading, writing for different audiences and the media. The production aspect encourages children to work together and the performance itself boosts confidence and self-esteem.

The books have four age-appropriate chapters that are divided into two sections; the first for teachers containing drugs information and drama activities and the second for students containing a story or play and assessment sheet.

Teachers may copy the contents for use with their class.

Chris Scanlan, writer, has directed, written and taught in professional theatre for over ten years and has created many works for the stage and educational texts for schools.

Christine Roche illustrates both children’s and adults’ books and works with a number of leading publishers. She has produced animated films for Channel 4 and UNICEF and lectures at the London College of Communication and is a visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art.
